Following on from a successful visit to South Africa, NECC has announce a headline event is being arranged in October, South Africa and other countries are welcomed to the region, to participate in the Rugby World Cup 2015, for which Newcastle is a host city.
Taking place in Newcastle City Centre on Thursday 1 October, the event will showcase some of the similarities and relationships shared between the region and South Africa, including:
- Renewables
- Education
- Travel and tourism
- Culture and creative
Following on from a full day event in 2013, and subsequent visits to the region by the SA High Commission team in London, it is hoped the activity will give interested parties the opportunity to further explore opportunities to participate in the on-going and strengthening relationship the region enjoys with South Africa, a key trading partner for the region.
NECC Chief Executive James Ramsbotham said: "Having led recently the trade visit to Durban and Johannesburg, I was blown away at the appetite for collaboration amongst South African companies. With an agreement now in place for co-operation with NECC and Durban Chamber, the framework is set for North East companies to capitalise on a raft of opportunities. I hope many businesses take advantage of the benefits hosting the World Cup bring, and book to attend this event, which provides a rare opportunity to showcase the best of our region."
With support already gained from UKTI and Newcastle City Council, NECC is keen to talk to other stakeholders interested in helping to shape the programme to maximise the benefit felt by the region.
