The USTB Cultural Day Festival was held at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) on the 17th of May 2015. A total of 67 countries participated in the event. The event began at 9am and continued late into the afternoon.
Proudly South Africa food such as sugar beans, pap with spinach, stewed beef and chicken was prepared and on display. It was pure Mzansi deluxe at its best. There were South African drinks supplied by Pinotage restaurant and African Diamond Wines including Amarula on display. Crowds flocked to the SA booth to get a taste of some wine and food.
Different nationalities came to learn about the country and its culture, they blew vuvuzelas, tried on makarapas and were dressed in South Africa’s stunning and colourful cultural fashion.
There was a Nelson Mandela banner on display that caught the crowd’s attention. People were tested on what they know about South Africa before they were given hampers, which created a real buzz within the cultural festival.
While the event was in process the rain suddenly started pouring down, however, this was the amazing part in that it brought more joy. The vuvuzela sounds were blasting, people dancing in the rain and others playing songs of joy. The experience was amazing.
The mission and objectives of the event was fully realized i.e. cultural exchange and educating people about SA. All thanks goes to all the participants, the students, the South African Embassy, Brand South Africa, Pinotage, African Diamond wines and USTB for making the event a success.
