Recent statistics reveal that in South Africa alone there are over 3.7 million orphaned children. It is against this background that Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV) in Durban launched an initiative in 2010 to help deal with this crisis and leave a legacy for future generations. (Lungisa Indlela means "The Right Way" in Zulu) - Watch this moving documentary on LIV for background.
LIV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. It is their mission, purpose and passion. They place vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing and where all their physical needs are met. LIV partners with Government, Business and the Church to provide urgently needed holistic residential care, on a large scale, for the thousands of vulnerable and parentless children, with the core vision to Rescue a child, Restore a life, Raise a leader and Release a star.
From the 26th of June until the 12th of September 2016, a group of LIV children aged 12 - 16 years will be touring the UK and Dubai, performing their latest production ‘LIV the Journey’. This production tells the story of LIV, performed by the children through dancing and singing. These children tell a very positive story of being rescued, how their lives are being restored, they are being raised up and will be released as stars - a story of hope in South Africa, that is desperately needed.
They will be doing 6-8 performances on a weekly basis, performing at churches, schools, universities, and special events in London, Birmingham, Stafford, Shepton Mallet, Devon, Scotland, Manchester, Eastbourne, Southampton, Watford and Bristol before heading to Dubai.
The group will comprise 18 children, 2 Choir Tour Leaders, 2 Choir Coordinators, 1 Social Worker, 5 Teachers and LIV Founders, Tich and Joan Smith (12 Adults).
“Music plays a large role in the lives of the children to build confidence, concentration, learn discipline, and to help grow their musical skill. The choir has helped our children to work in unity and to appreciate each other. We have seen them grow emotionally and overcome so much in their lives through the music programme,” says Tich Smith, LIV founder. We have always followed the success of the Watoto Model. Their choirs travel annually and the tour has a positive impact on the lives of the children, especially evident in the improvement of their school work and confidence.
The group has been fundraising to make the tour possible and are staying in various churches to cut costs.
The aim of this tour is to create awareness for orphan and vulnerable children in the world and to raise funds for the work LIV is doing. They hope to raise between R5 - R10 million.
THE BANQUET AT THE SA HIGH COMMISSION
The tour will also include a banquet at South Africa House where the High Commissioner will invite South African businesses to attend and build partnerships with LIV. Their patron, Dr Zweli Mkhize, will be speaking at this event to show his support. They will also be part of a mega concert with Martin Smith, Tim Hughes and Beth Croft and will perform at different events all around the UK includingSoul Survivor, Momentum and Creation Fest.
