Meet the endearing Tannie Maria, a 50-something South African agony aunty for the Klein Karoo Gazette with a talent for sleuthing and a penchant for cooking glorious Afrikaans specialties.
This wonderful character is the star of her own Murder Mystery series - written by South African author Sally Andrew. Think Alexander McCall Smith meets Herman Charles Bosman – but sprinkled with lekker boere recipes! Sally published her first novel in the series, Recipes for Love and Murder, at the end of 2015 in SA and in the UK in Jan 2016. Now she is in London again (9 – 13 July) to launch the second book in the series – The Satanic Mechanic.
Sally Andrew divides her time between Muizenberg on the Cape Town coast and a mud brick house on a nature reserve in the Klein Karoo, South Africa, where she lives with her artist partner and various wildlife (including a giant eland and a secretive leopard).
Sally is also a keen environmental and social activist, running campaigns and has written an array of educational materials on the environment in South Africa.
