Madiba is a new miniseries currently being filmed in South Africa, not only telling the life story of Nelson Mandela, but looking at length at other iconic activists and the ordinary people involved in the anti-apartheid struggle.
The series features an all-star cast of both international and local actors, including Laurence Fishburne as Mandela (Morpheus in the Matrix).
South African actress Terry Pheto (Tsotsi) plays Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and Hlomla Dandala (Isidingo) plays stalwart Govan Mbeki. Other South African actors include Grant Swanby (Isidingo) as Afrikaner anti-activist Bram Fischer, and Mark Elderkin (Black Sails) as Anglican bishop and human rights activist Trevor Huddleston.
American Orlando Jones portrays long-serving ANC president Oliver Tambo while British actor David Harewood (Homeland, Supergirl) plays Walter Sisulu.
The series is directed by Kevin Hooks, known for his work in creating intricate television narratives in shows such as Prison Break and 24.
