Napoleon once said: “One must change one’s tactics every 10 years if one wishes to maintain one’s superiority.”
With this in mind, Rattray’s on MalaMala, one of just 3 lodges in the iconic MalaMala Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, has embraced this challenge in honour of its 10th birthday and introduced some exciting changes and new initiatives.
A notable change, in response to industry feedback, is that from 8 January 2017, the Rattray’s rate will be FULLY INCLUSIVE, including all bar purchases. Despite including drinks going forwards - the 2016 rate will remain unchanged for 2017.
Rattray’s has employed a dynamic and experienced new executive chef – Nathan Thomas. Nathan, who grew up in in quite a tough neighbourhood in Cape Town, was inspired and taught to cook by his grandmother but has since trained and worked in the luxury safari industry throughout Africa. He has been tasked with enhancing the overall dining and culinary experience including new menus and innovative food presentation.
The bed configuration is also changing in the khayas (rooms) so that they can now offer two khayas with twin rather than double beds. These khayas will still have a day bed which effectively means that two triple khayas will be available (only available in a reservation of two or more khayas). This will be more flexible for familieswith the trend towards multi-generational travel.
Rattray’s also now has new Land Rover safari vehicles, all fitted with ultra-comfortable bucket seats. They will still offer a maximum of four guests per safari vehicle unless a triple room is booked as part of the group or the group comprises six guests or less.A private vehicle and photographic vehicle with a specialised photographic guide, is also available for hire.
Finally, an upgrade of the massage facility has been planned for early 2017 enhanced by an additional experienced therapist and a greater range of treatments.
Wedged between the Sabi Sands to the West and sharing an unfenced border with the famous Kruger National Park to the East, Rattrays’s at MalaMala is tucked away in a forest of green on the banks of the world renowned Sand River. It gives an intimate glimpse of a long lost era - seamlessly blending the magic of the African bush with elegance and refinement. The culmination of over 50 years of experience within the Rattray family combined with unrivalled game viewing on the country’s largest private game reserve, makes Rattray’s on MalaMala the premier safari destination for those seeking to experience the wild heart of the African bush in humble opulence and romantic exclusivity.
