Spotlight on GSA Human Rights Leaders
Sibongile Ndashe
A distinguished international human rights lawyer, Ndashe founded the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) in 2014. Her organisation focuses on advancing women’s and sexual rights across the continent, establishing transformative legal precedents.
Vinodh Jaichand
An alumnus of Notre Dame’s inaugural master’s program in international human rights, Jaichand has significantly influenced legal frameworks defending human rights globally. His work emphasises the importance of legal structures in protecting marginalised communities.
Breyten Breytenbach
A renowned writer and poet, Breytenbach was a vocal critic of apartheid. His opposition led to a seven-year imprisonment in 1975. After his release, he continued his activism from Paris, using his literary works to highlight issues of exile, identity, and justice.
