The Moya World Tour: Bringing South African talent to the World stage
When it comes to sports, arts and culture, we’ve always had the world eating out of the palm of our hands. Whether its Tyla and Makhadzi winning highly sought-after music awards, taking over the world with Amapiano, the Springboks winning the Rugby world cup or the recent performance of Team South Africa at the 2024 Olympics- we have earned our seat at the table of global excellence.
In the same breath, we would like to take our hats off to the Zip Zap Social and Professional circus for developing and assembling world-class talent through their circus programmes. In an era where the traditional circus has lost some bit of relevance across the world, they have kept the essence of circus entertainment alive through the performing arts for 32 years consistently. True to their talented nature, the multi-award-winning production will be embarking on the Moya World Tour across key markets in North America and Europe. Moya was originally an Acrobatic art film which evolved into a circus narrative production that is directed by a collective of creatives. The tour features 10 young and dynamic performing artists who will bring the South African spirit through the lens of the youth. The theatre production involves a display of aerial skills, a masterclass in juggling, and acrobatic wheel routines that will keep audiences young and old at the edge of their seats.
We know that many South Africans living in the diaspora have flown our national flag high and have left many of their friends in different parts of the world yearning to visit Mzansi. Be that as it may, one can never fully divulge the splendour of the South African experience in its entirety to would-be travelers unless they experience it for themselves. Through productions such as the Moya World Tour, South Africa’s rich cultural heritage will literally be hand delivered to audiences across the globe. Giving them the pleasure of experiencing South African flair right in their own countries.
For this, we would like to applaud the Zip Zap Social and Professional circus founders, Brent van Rensburg and Laurence Esteve for being the vision bearers of this social cohesion entity. Without their foresight, we wouldn’t have been able to bridge the socio-economic gap through circus-entertainment and the performing arts for over 35 000 young South Africans. Together with their team of talented performers, they’ve not only shown active citizenship of the highest order but made their mark around the world as Global South Africans as well.
The 2024 leg of the Moya World Tour is set to kick-off in September until December in the United States of America and France, with the 2025 leg beginning in March until April in Mauritius and New York, USA.
Let’s rally behind the performers and go out in our numbers to support our own. Be there as the story of our diverse cultural heritage is shared with the world by talented South Africans.
